Default Setting htaccess on the catalog/admin directory

I'm trying to complete the post installation tips for my oscommerce install, but I'm getting this warning.

Quote:
Additional Protection With htaccess/htpasswd
This osCommerce Online Merchant Administration Tool installation is not additionally secured through htaccess/htpasswd means.

The following files need to be writable by the web server to enable the htaccess/htpasswd security layer:

/home/virtual/site319/fst/var/www/html/2011/catalog/namechanged/.htaccess
/home/virtual/site319/fst/var/www/html/2011/catalog/namechanged/.htpasswd_oscommerce
Reload this page to confirm if the correct file permissions have been set.
I have the parallels control panel and my server is using the frontpage to protect directories. The admin directory is shown in the subwebs section when I log into frontpage. How can I fix this?

chmod the files to 0777 for a few minutes to make them writable and then revert to previous permission settings when the cart install is complete.

Frontpage server extentions will somtimes interfere with htaccess settings for many hosted php apps.
